Newbie to Aro intro & opinions wanted

My name is jumali from singapore and i am a new member to this forum. Firstly i would like to thank Forum Moderators for having this great platform. I would like to share on how i come to like arowanas from the long liking of fish-keeping since young.

Honestly way before the Luohans era i had an impression that arowanas is an arrogant fish. This could also be because i was young back then and knowing that i cant afford to have a big tank or a good arowana fish, i suppose it is safe for me to have this feelings.

But things change a month ago when i was visiting the LFS. Somehow, now, the arowanas dont look arrogant but majestic and i have the urge to have yet again the close fish-owner relationship which i had had with my luohans before. Since my luohans pass, i have been changing from one fish to the other but i would still feel that hollowness in myself. But now i am excited to own an arowana. I am still in the process of saving for the right tank and the right fish (just started working so must save up first).

I had started reading more on Arowanas from books (& of course from all the posts regarding arowana from this forum) & pics shown below are the books which i own so far.

1) Arowana - A layman's guide by Willie Si & Winstom Sng

2) The Asiam Arowana by William Goh & Julia Chua

3) The Millennium Dragon by William Goh & Julia Chua

4) The Ever Changing of Asian Arowana - it is in chinese (A gift from my friend)

5) Awakening of the dragon - English Edition (havent read yet, just bought it)

Before i conclude, i would like to ask honest opinions from all forumers:

I never own an arowana before. I am saving up for a red aro but there are mixed views on this. Some of my friends advices me not to venture into an expensive aro just yet but to care for affordable ones. But i told them that if i want to keep, it would be red because i love looking at their coloration when they swim. On the other hand, i also have a group of friends who encourage me to save up and purchase a red since that is the one that i have feelings for. What is your opinion on this?

Thank you for reading my lengthy post. Have a great day.

Hi Jumali...welcome to Aro's world.....:congrats:

It's good to hear you and I agree to your opinion that Arowana is a marvelous and majestic fish..even in the world....:top: :top: :top:
Here, you can discuss about anything to everybody...though that's not Arowana's topics..;)

Somehow, you have some great books about Arowana (great knowledge you have) and a lot of friends or hoobies here who will help, discuss and share more informations to you...

Have a great day too...:congrats:

hi Jumali, what a passion u gt there dude...
IMO u absolutely have to buy a nice super red for ur self dude, because keeping aro is almost the same, for all kinds of aro. Ure feeding the same food, keeping it at the same aquarium, and spending same time to raise 'em, but at the end, the joyness of having a super red swimming in front of u, is totally different than the other kind of aro...
so go for it dude, super red is the best....

Over the past several weeks there have been requests to add new forums to the board. One suggestion was for a Health & Wellness forum, another suggestion was a baby and pregnancy forum, and there was also a suggestion a few weeks ago for a recipe and craft forum.

What are your opinions on this? Would you like to see more forums added or do you prefer to keep it the way it is? I want people to feel like they can discuss anything on this board, but yet, I dont want there to be so many sections you get lost.

Also, if you have any additional ideas please throw them my way. Thank you.
